How is FACE Consulting different?

If you suffer an asset failure and engage FACE to diagnose the root cause, because your operations have been interrupted and costs have been incurred, we collectively commence the engagement behind schedule and over budget. It is only by efficiently devising cost-saving interventions that we can recover the cost of the unanticipated failure and generate net positive value for your company.

Approaching complex problems from the bottom up (starting with data collection and progressively drawing insights from the data) can result in “boiling the ocean” situations where the sheer volume of data to be collected precludes problem solving efficiency and clarity of focus.

Borrowing from the leading management consultancies, FACE applies the hypothesis based problem solving approach to root cause failure analysis. In this approach, we use a diagnostic issue tree and the MECE Principle (mutually exclusive; collectively exhaustive) to identify all possible root causes for a problem. Based on our intuition and experience, the leading candidate root cause is identified and the hypothesis that this is the true root cause is tested through targeted data collection and analysis. If the hypothesis is rejected, another candidate root cause is selected and tested in the same manner.

By applying the hypothesis based method, we ensure that all the data that we work with on a project is collected and analysed for the express purpose of root cause identification. This minimises the cost to our clients by minimising turnaround times on root cause failure analysis projects.
